In the film Marinovich is played by Ryan Phillippe Frank Rautenbach plays Greg Marinovich Malin Akerman plays Robin Comley Taylor Kitsch plays Kevin Carter and Neels Van Jaarsveld is featured as João Silva. The film adaptation of Marinovich and Silva’s book was shot on location in the Tokoza township by South African documentary film-maker Steven Silver. While Greg Marinovich and Kevin Carter won Pulitzer Prizes for their work, and Kevin Carter won the Pulitzer for Featured Photography in 1994, João Silva and Greg Marinovich teamed to write “ The Bang Bang Club: Snapshots from a Hidden War” published in 2000.

The book is based on a real life drama involving a team of four journalist – João Silva, Kevin Carter, Ken Oosterbroek and Kim Comley - documenting the South African civil war, between 19, when Nelson Mandela was released from jail and his African National Congress defied the white rule government, which led to free elections in 1994 and the end of apartheid. The film opens today in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Washington, Seattle, and San Diego and Irvine, California. The just release movie feature “The Bang Bang Club” is based on a book co-authored by photojournalists João Silva and Greg Marinovich both working for The New York Times.
